Dunvegan Pier Master

Part-time post: salary £450 per month.

The Pier Master will be responsible for the efficient running of all marine activities on the Dunvegan Pier, acting as the main contact/liaison between the MacLeod Estate and all the Pier users, commercial contractors and misc. vessels that use the Dunvegan Pier facility.

Key result areas include liaising with fishermen, offering practical assistance with the docking of log-boats and other vessels, Pier maintenance and ensuring Health & Safety compliance is maintained at all times.

Knowledge of the local marine environment, current legislation and some practical experience of working on boats and/or with fishing vessels is preferable. Training will be provided.

Head Gardener, Dunvegan Castle Gardens

Dunvegan Castle & Gardens is an iconic part of Scotland’s heritage and centrepiece of the 42,000 acre MacLeod Estate on the Isle of Skye. As the ancestral home of the Chiefs of clan MacLeod for 800 years, Dunvegan is an award winning 5* visitor attraction acting as a magnet for over 140,000 visitors each year.

Since 2008, the estate has made major capital investments in the castle gardens with extensive re-landscaping works and new design features which have built up its budding reputation as one of the most important gardens in the Highland region.

We are looking for a highly experienced horticulturalist with the ability to further enhance the five acres of formal garden policies at castle gardens with a hands-on management style and the ability to lead a dedicated team working in all weathers in a very exposed remote location. The successful candidate will relish a challenge, be a team player and have a proven track record of successfully managing gardens of some distinction.

Estate Foreman

A unique opportunity to helm a department that maintains a diverse range of buildings on the MacLeod Estate, ranging from the Grade A Listed Dunvegan Castle to our period holiday cottages and heritage property portfolio.

You will possess qualifications and experience in a recognised building trade and be capable of leading a committed team with a diverse range of backgrounds and experience. Always calm under pressure, we expect you to be self-motivated and to deliver results with energy complemented by a sense of humour. Ideally used to working within the heritage sector, you will be able to forward plan and complete the numerous maintenance tasks and repairs on a regular basis as well as providing the estate with an efficient, pro-active and dedicated maintenance service.
