Seasonal Vacancies

Dunvegan Castle & Gardens is one of the most dynamic, diverse and popular 5* visitor attractions on the Isle of Skye. You will be a team player, enjoy working in a busy environment and take pride in maintaining high standards of customer service at all times.

We offer excellent rates of pay starting at £7.50 per hour and above, in-house training and the chance to work with a great team in historic surroundings.

Castle Ticket Office

As the first point of contact for our visitors, first impressions count. We are looking for people who will give a very warm Highland Welcome to our visitors. With excellent communication skills and the ability to meet the demanding expectations of our visitors, you will be able to remain calm under pressure and keep smiling in the face of our high visitor volumes during the peak season. Cash-handling and touch-screen till operations skills are required for which training will be provided.

Castle Guides

These vital positions as the welcoming face of Dunvegan Castle require strong communication skills, an interest in Scottish history and people who will actively engage with the high volume of visitors we welcome each season.

MacLeod Table Cafe – Cafe Manager

Experienced in a similar position, you will provide strong team leadership in this hands-on role and bring some bright ideas for providing the best food and service for our visitors to this popular busy cafe. The ideal candidate will be experienced in food preparation with high standards of customer care.  They will have food hygiene knowledge and appropriate certification, be computer literate and experienced in cash handling.

MacLeod Tables Cafe Assistants

You will pride yourself on the highest standards of customer care. Ideally with a current basic food hygiene certificate, you will ensure the cafe premises are always scrupulously clean and all our delicious freshly prepared food is beautifully presented. Food preparation, cash-handling and touch-screen till operations skills are required for which training will be provided.

Retail Assistants

With our busy retail outlets at Dunvegan Castle, we are looking for people with a strong customer service ethos and a passion for selling our high quality range of products across our four retail outlets. Cash-handling and touch-screen till operations skills are required for which training will be provided.

Boatmen/women

We are looking for marine operatives to join our existing team at one of our most popular and busy visitor attractions at Dunvegan. With responsibility for helming our traditional clinker-built boats with up to 7 passengers on short trips to see the Loch Dunvegan resident seal colony, the ideal candidate will have the required Level II Powerboat licence with commercial endorsements: VHF radio, Sea Survival and First Aid (or acceptable equivalents). Training will be provided.

Visitor Facilities Cleaner

We require some extra help to keep our visitor areas spotlessly throughout the season. Applicants must have very high standards and preferably be able to accommodate part-time working seven days per week.

Glenbrittle Campsite Wardens (1 April – 30 September)

Voted No.1 UK Campsite by the Daily Telegraph a few years ago, we are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and hardworking full and part-time seasonal Campsite Wardens with a genuine sense of pride in their work and varied skill sets for the 2016 season.  You must have some experience in retail, cash handling and general site maintenance.  Training and accommodation will be provided (suitable for either a couple or friends in shared accommodation) to the successful applicants. You will require your own transport for these posts due to the site’s remote location at the foot of the Cuillin mountains. Onsite training will begin in early March. We offer competitive rates of pay, in-house training, free shared accommodation plus the chance to work with a great team in wonderful surroundings.

Cuillin Coffee Co Baristas (1 April – 30 September)

We are looking for enthusiastic baristas with previous experience of working in a busy café environment preparing a range of espresso-based drinks to join us on our beach-side coffee bar and coffee van. Practical experience of espresso extraction parameters and latte art would be beneficial. You will have the opportunity to grow the brand locally at iconic island locations while working with our favoured spring lever espresso machines. You must be willing to work weekends and be flexible in your hours. A full UK driving licence and your own vehicle are essential for the role. If you are a friendly, confident, self-motivated and trustworthy individual who is passionate about quality coffee while looking to enjoy a season developing your skills in the beautiful Isle of Skye, then this is the place for you.

Estate Foreman

A unique opportunity to helm a department that maintains a diverse range of buildings on the MacLeod Estate, ranging from the Grade A Listed Dunvegan Castle to our period holiday cottages and heritage property portfolio.

You will possess qualifications and experience in a recognised building trade and be capable of leading a committed team with a diverse range of backgrounds and experience. Always calm under pressure, we expect you to be self-motivated and to deliver results with energy complemented by a sense of humour. Ideally used to working within the heritage sector, you will be able to forward plan and complete the numerous maintenance tasks and repairs on a regular basis as well as providing the estate with an efficient, pro-active and dedicated maintenance service.

Gardener

This full-time post requires an experienced gardener with common sense and a practical approach in all aspects of horticulture to join the existing team and assist the Head Gardener with the development of this garden of national importance. A sound knowledge of plants with the ability to operate a wide range of garden plant and machinery and the desire to undertake physically demanding manual tasks in all weathers using their own initiative and working as part of a team.

The post holder will have a special responsibility for the Walled Garden area, working to deliver the Garden Design plans as drawn up by the Estate Director under the guidance of the Head Gardener.

Groundsman

This full-time post requires someone with common sense and experience in all aspects of garden maintenance and hard landscaping work to join the existing team and assist the Head Gardener with the upkeep of this garden of national importance.

With an ability to drive and maintain a wide range of garden machinery, tools and vehicles, the postholder must be fully capable of undertaking physically demanding manual tasks in all weathers. Working as part of a five strong garden team, there are no line management responsibilities associated with this post. The Garden dept. has a Head Gardener and Assistant Head Gardener who you shall report to.

Maintenance/Seal Boatmen

We are looking for a friendly and enthusiastic maintenance/seal boatmen to join our team at the MacLeod Estate on a fulltime basis. Always calm under pressure, we expect you to be self-motivated and to deliver results with energy complemented by a sense of humour.

The qualifications required are a Boat Master Grade 3 or Powerboat Level 2 with commercial endorsement for sailing with passengers. If you do not hold any of these qualifications, training will be provided. In terms of the skill set required for maintenance, we are looking for a multi-skilled handyman with a working knowledge of plumbing and joinery. The MacLeod Estate will provide training if required.
