As an 800 hundred year old Grade A listed building in such an exposed location, Dunvegan Castle is in constant need of repair as is the historic collection within its fortified walls. As a visitor to Dunvegan Castle & Gardens, you make a vital contribution to our ongoing mission to restore, conserve and maintain the historic fabric of the castle and its five acres of formal garden policies for future generations to enjoy.

Since 2008, the MacLeod Estate has majority funded a number of restoration projects to Dunvegan Castle & Gardens which have cost £2.8 million to date. This capital investment was made possible by some grant aid funding from Historic Scotland for the castle’s roof, but the MacLeod Estate bridged the funding gap by incurring very high debt levels which remain to this day and reinvesting a large percentage of the seasonal income it receives from the visiting public. If you would like to contribute to our ongoing mission to preserve, develop and share this unique part of Scotland’s heritage, please join our Friends of Dunvegan membership scheme and/or you can make a donation to the dedicated estate restoration account:
