Carbost Primary and Nursery Win Dunvegan Castle & Gardens’ Giant Easter Egg Competition
This Easter, Dunvegan Castle & Gardens hosted a vibrant and imaginative exhibition of giant Easter eggs, each one beautifully decorated by local primary schools from across the Isle of Skye. The exhibition took place in the beautiful glasshouse within the Walled Garden, providing a bright and welcoming space for visitors to admire the colourful creations.
Themed “What represents your community?”, the competition invited schools to explore and celebrate the identity of their local area. Each egg offered a unique glimpse into the heritage, landscapes, and values of the island’s diverse communities — from dramatic natural features to cultural traditions and everyday village life.
Visitors from near and far were invited to vote for their favourite design, and with over 600 votes cast, Carbost Primary and Nursery emerged as the clear winner. Their winning egg featured the striking Cuillin Ridge, enriched with natural elements and materials collected from the local landscape. Its design beautifully captured the contrast between sea and sky — a defining characteristic of the island’s scenery — and was praised for both its creativity and authenticity.
Dunvegan Castle & Gardens extends heartfelt congratulations to all the schools who took part. The exhibition not only highlighted the artistic talents of Skye’s youngest residents but also fostered a strong sense of community and pride.
With the success of this year’s event, plans are already being made to bring the competition back next Easter with a fresh new theme.
